ShipNetwork is a U.S. 3PL with 10 fulfillment centers it owns, a dedicated account team for each brand, and custom quotes built from five line items. Shopify brands searching for an alternative want one of a few things: a cost they can model before the sales call, fewer inventory splits, a specialist for heavy products, or software built by the warehouse that runs it. Each one points to a different provider below, using what each company says on its own site as of November 2026.
The main ShipNetwork alternatives for Shopify brands are ShipBob (50+ fulfillment centers), ShipMonk (12+ centers on 7 campuses), Red Stag Fulfillment (products over 10 pounds), Flowspace (a U.S. and Canada network) and Orderfy (one warehouse in the center of the US running its own WMS). ShipNetwork isn't Rakuten Super Logistics anymore: its own site says Devin Johnson bought it back from Rakuten in 2022.
Who owns ShipNetwork now, and is it still Rakuten Super Logistics?
No. ShipNetwork has been independent since 2022. Its About page gives the history: founded in 2001 as Webgistix, acquired by Rakuten Group in 2013 and run as Rakuten Super Logistics, then bought back from Rakuten by Devin Johnson in 2022 and relaunched as ShipNetwork. Some search summaries still call it "Rakuten Super Logistics", which was accurate before 2022.
What ShipNetwork says about itself as of November 2026:
- Network: 10 fulfillment centers, all owned and operated by ShipNetwork: Anaheim (Placentia), CA; Las Vegas (Henderson), NV; Reno (Sparks), NV; Salt Lake City, UT; Houston, TX; Chicago (McCook), IL; Atlanta (Lithia Springs), GA; Scranton (Ashley), PA; West Hazleton, PA; and Olean, NY. It states 1-2 day ground reach to 98% of the U.S.
- Accuracy: 99.99%+ order accuracy, backed by a 100% order accuracy guarantee.
- Compliance: every facility is FDA registered and hazmat certified, lot tracking runs at every facility, and temperature-controlled storage is available in Henderson, NV.
- Support: a dedicated "POD" team per account, with 300+ team members across the company.
- Shipping: KNCT, its ship method, picks a carrier for each order at label creation. KNCT tiers run from Priority (1-3 days) to Ground (3-8 days), and KNCT Ground is limited to 4.4 pounds.
- Channels: integrations with Shopify and other carts, marketplaces and custom APIs.
If you need distributed ground coverage, FDA-registered space and hazmat handling from one provider, ShipNetwork covers all three, and a switch may cost you more than it saves. The sections below are for brands leaving for a different reason.
How does ShipNetwork price fulfillment?
ShipNetwork quotes every brand individually and doesn't publish a rate card. Its pricing page lists five line items: receiving (per item received), storage (per pallet, per month), pick and pack (per order, plus per unit), shipping (per package, by zone and weight) and account management (per month, for the dedicated team).
Other terms from the same page, as of November 2026:
- Minimum: no published volume cutoff. ShipNetwork asks for your monthly orders on a call.
- Setup: account setup is its own line on the proposal.
- Contract: terms are set in the proposal.
- Peak: pick and pack and storage rates don't change in Q4, and carrier peak surcharges are passed through at cost.
- Add-ons: lot and expiry verification, serial tracking, inserts, labeling, returns processing and international orders are priced only when used.
Model the account management line first. A fixed monthly fee costs more per order in a slow month than in a busy one, so get it as a dollar figure and divide it by your lowest month, not your average. Then check how each charge will show up after you sign. We bill weekly with autopay, and every charge shows in Orderfy WMS on the order it belongs to, so a fee you didn't expect can be traced to the order that caused it. The annotated 3PL quote shows how to read each line.
Why do Shopify brands look for a ShipNetwork alternative?
Brands leave a 3PL for a specific reason, and the right alternative depends on which one. Start with the reason, then shortlist.
| Reason for looking | Alternative to check first | What its own site says (Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| You want warehouses outside the U.S. | ShipBob | Fulfillment centers in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and Europe; 50+ worldwide |
| You want a minimum you can calculate before the call | ShipMonk | Monthly minimum equals monthly order volume times the first-item pick fee, minus 20% |
| Your products are heavy or bulky | Red Stag Fulfillment | Built for products bigger than a toaster or heavier than 10 pounds; two locations |
| You want inventory spread close to demand across many metros | Flowspace | Warehouses across the U.S. and Canada, placed through a free fulfillment analysis |
| You want one team and software built by the warehouse that runs it | Orderfy | A warehouse in the center of the US running Orderfy WMS |
| You need hazmat handling and FDA-registered space from one provider | Stay with ShipNetwork or compare closely | Every ShipNetwork facility is FDA registered and hazmat certified |
Older reviews from the Rakuten Super Logistics years still rank in search. Judge the current operation, whichever provider you pick, by calling two or three brands at your volume and reading the SLA before you sign.
How do the main ShipNetwork alternatives compare?
All six providers quote high-volume Shopify brands individually, so the useful differences are network shape, how the minimum or fixed fees work, and what each one guarantees. The table uses each company's own pages, checked November 4, 2026.
| Provider | Network | Pricing model | Accuracy or guarantee stated | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ShipNetwork | 10 owned U.S. fulfillment centers | Custom quote, five line items including monthly account management | 99.99%+ accuracy, 100% order accuracy guarantee | Distributed U.S. ground reach, regulated products |
| ShipBob | 50+ fulfillment centers worldwide | Custom quote; software free for customers | 99.97% order accuracy rate | Brands selling in several countries |
| ShipMonk | 12+ fulfillment centers on 7 campuses (U.S., Canada, UK, mainland Europe) | Custom quote with a monthly minimum tied to pick fees | Photo of every pack; 95% on-time delivery within 2 days | Steady volume, subscription and kitting programs |
| Red Stag Fulfillment | Sweetwater, TN and Salt Lake City, UT | Custom quote | Four guarantees: dock-to-stock in 2 business days, no shrinkage, pick and pack accuracy, on-time shipments | Heavy or bulky products |
| Flowspace | Warehouses across the U.S. and Canada | Custom quote after a fulfillment analysis | Lot control, expiration tracking and temperature-controlled storage offered | Multi-node placement near many metros |
| Orderfy | A warehouse in Dallas-Fort Worth, center of the US | Itemized quote before you sign; weekly billing with autopay | 99.9% order accuracy tracked in Orderfy WMS; a wrong or incomplete order is reshipped free, with that order's fulfillment fee credited | Shopify brands that want one team and one WMS |

How do monthly minimums and fixed fees change cost per order?
A monthly minimum only costs you money in months when volume drops below the level the 3PL priced for. ShipMonk publishes its formula on its pricing page: monthly order volume times the first-item pick fee, reduced by 20%. That puts the break-even point at 80% of projected volume.
Example only (illustrative figures, not any provider's rates): a brand is quoted on 10,000 orders a month with a $2.75 first-item pick fee. The minimum is 10,000 x $2.75 x 0.8 = $22,000.
| Month | Orders shipped | Pick fees at $2.75 | Monthly minimum | Shortfall billed | Extra cost per order |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peak month | 15,000 | $41,250 | $22,000 | $0 | $0.00 |
| Normal month | 10,000 | $27,500 | $22,000 | $0 | $0.00 |
| Slow month | 8,000 | $22,000 | $22,000 | $0 | $0.00 |
| Very slow month | 7,000 | $19,250 | $22,000 | $2,750 | $0.39 |
| January after peak | 5,000 | $13,750 | $22,000 | $8,250 | $1.65 |
A fixed monthly fee works the same way without the floor. Example only: a $1,500 monthly account fee adds $0.75 per order at 2,000 orders, $0.30 at 5,000, $0.15 at 10,000 and $0.08 at 20,000. When you compare ShipNetwork with an alternative, convert every fixed or minimum line into cost per order at your slowest month of the last year.
Do you need 10 warehouses, or one in the center of the US?
It depends on where your customers are and how many SKUs you carry. More nodes shorten ground transit, but each node needs its own stock, so inventory and safety stock grow with every split.
ShipNetwork makes the same point on its locations page: start in one building and add a second when your order data shows it will shorten delivery and lower cost. Run that test before you choose any network:
- Export 90 days of Shopify orders with ship-to ZIP codes.
- Have each 3PL model postage by zone from its proposed warehouse or warehouses, on the same carrier services.
- Add the cost of splitting stock: extra inbound freight, transfers between buildings and the safety stock each node needs.
- Compare the totals per order, not the transit map.
A single central warehouse keeps every unit in one pool and reaches both coasts by ground without paying for air. A multi-node network wins when a large share of orders sits far from the center and the SKU count is small enough to split. Shipping zones explained shows the zone math.
What should you check before you leave ShipNetwork?
Check the exit terms in your current proposal first, then line up the new 3PL's receiving and Shopify setup. The overlap weeks, when both warehouses hold stock, carry most of the risk.
- Notice period and contract terms in your ShipNetwork proposal, since ShipNetwork sets terms per client.
- A final inventory count by SKU and lot before stock leaves, signed by both sides.
- Exports of order history, inventory, lot records and return reasons in a format the new 3PL can load.
- Freight for the transfer: how many facilities hold your stock, and whether units ship to the new warehouse from each one.
- The new 3PL's setup line, receiving time and Shopify fulfillment location, all in writing.
- Paperwork on the new side. At Orderfy, inbound shipments stay blocked until the services agreement is signed in Orderfy WMS and the opening deposit is paid, so sign before you book transfer freight.
- Timing: a move that starts in November runs into Q4 peak. Plan the cutover for after peak unless your current service is failing now.
Watch for double shipping during the overlap. We hit this with a Shopify brand that kept some stock in its own building and some with us: Orderfy WMS imported every open order, so an order could have shipped from both places. We added an order scope setting that takes either all orders or only the orders Shopify routes to the Orderfy location, and orders Shopify moves to another location drop out of our queue. Whichever 3PL you pick, confirm it only pulls the orders Shopify assigns to its location.
The 30-day switching plan covers the overlap and the store cutover step by step.
What Orderfy does differently from ShipNetwork
We run one warehouse in the center of the US (Dallas-Fort Worth) on Orderfy WMS, the proprietary software we built in-house for Shopify and Amazon sellers, so the team packing your orders also owns the system the orders run on. Order accuracy is 99.9%, tracked in Orderfy WMS, and written SLAs with fee credits are available. If we ship a wrong or incomplete order, we reship it free and credit that order's fulfillment fee. We receive inbound stock within 24 hours of delivery, and it's typically in your sellable inventory in less than 1 business day. We're not the right fit if you need warehouses on both coasts for 1-day ground delivery, and brands that need temperature-controlled storage, hazmat handling or FDA-registered space should ask before requesting a quote.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, under a new owner. ShipNetwork says it started as Webgistix in 2001, became Rakuten Super Logistics after Rakuten acquired it in 2013, and became ShipNetwork in 2022 when Devin Johnson bought it back from Rakuten. It's independent of Rakuten today.
No. ShipNetwork builds a custom quote from five line items: receiving, storage, pick and pack, shipping and monthly account management. Its pricing page says it will send a range if you share monthly orders, SKU count, average units per order and where your customers are.
ShipNetwork doesn't publish a volume cutoff as of November 2026. Its site says it's built for brands with steady monthly volume and real peaks, and it answers fit questions on a call. Get the account management fee as a dollar figure and divide it by your slowest month to see what it adds per order.
Red Stag Fulfillment positions itself for products bigger than a toaster or heavier than 10 pounds and negotiates on oversize and additional handling surcharges. ShipNetwork's own KNCT Ground service is limited to 4.4 pounds, so heavier parcels move on its other tiers.
Plan on several weeks from signed agreement to full cutover, with an overlap where both warehouses ship. The length depends on your notice terms, how many ShipNetwork facilities hold your stock and the new 3PL's receiving time. Avoid starting a move right before Q4 peak.
